PhD Candidate, Computational Linguistics

I'm a doctoral student in computational linguistics at Georgetown University. Originally trained as a variationist sociolinguist, my research aims to bridge the gap between natural language processing and sociolinguistic inquiry. I’m particularly interested in developing NLP systems capable of picking up on linguistic cues speakers use to project various aspects of social identity. Such sociolinguistic cues help one to better understand the social context of the speaker, thereby increasing the ability to tailor applications or services targeted towards that particular speaker downstream.
